Lifestyle Changes to Combat RosaceaThe Effects of Cleansers on RosaceaRosacea skin care can be challenging. Many times the skin care products used to cleanse the face by the rosacea sufferer can result in aggravating the rosacea condition. Deep cleansing is a popular notion but if a skin product is too harsh or aggressive the result can be irritation, redness, itching and clogged pores. If a product removes too much facial oil, the body will compensate by producing more facial oil. Astringent soaps or any astringent agents that shrink the skin pores such as facial toners, witch hazel, alum, oatmeal, very cold water, and rubbing alcohol should be avoided, as they shrink pores, trapping more body oils in the skin. Change wash-cloths and body towels after each use. They are a great place for adult acne-causing bacteria to grow and be reapplied to the skin later. Wash facial wash cloths and pillow covers daily with Clorox to decrease rosacea-related bacterial growth. Change clothes and sheets frequently. Cetaphil® "moisturizing gentle cleansing bar for dry, sensitive skin" has given the best result for skin with rosacea and acne. Wash the face with Cetaphil® gentle cleansing bar as needed which would be two times per day for dry or normal skin and three or four times daily for oily skin. You will also probably be very happy using Cetaphil® 'gentle cleansing bar for dry sensitive skin' over the entire body. Please do not choose the Cetaphil® Skin Cleanser in a plastic bottle containing two alcohols, the Cetaphil® anti-bacterial, nor the Cetaphil® Bar for oily skin as these are too harsh for the rosacea-sufferer. Cetaphil® is manufactured by Galderma Labs of Paris, France with world wide offices which you can search for a purchase location within any country. Cetaphil can be purchased online at Galderna or at your nearest drug store or pharmacy. Other options in cleansing bars include:
Dove "normal white bar" that has been known for years for use on sensitive skin. Dove can be found worldwide or online at Dove Neutrogena (the transparent facial bar) "dry skin formula - fragrance free" is very good. Neutrogena is available for purchase at most pharmacies and drug stores or you can shop online at Drugstore.com. Noxzema Shaving cream for sensitive skin (yes in the red can). It has Dimethicone and is super for sensitive skin. Noxema Shaving cream can be found at Drugstore.com. Just use it as you would the three above soaps, except you press the button on top to get the soap lather. | |
